Valley of Fire State Park
Valley of Fire State Park is Nevada`s oldest state park, dedicated 1935.
The Valley of Fire derives its name from red
sandstone formations, formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs, 150 million years ago. Complex uplifting and faulting of the region, followed by extensive erosion, have created the present land- scape. Other important rock formations include limestones, shales, and conglomerates.

Some of the
rocks are named like “Seven Sisters,” “Elephant Rock,” “Piano Rock” or the “White Domes,” a brilliant contrast of sandstone colors with unique plants to the area such as the yucca.

Take a half mile round trip walk to Mouse`s Tank through the sandy canyon, with trail markers to point out interesting
features, including fine examples of prehistoric Indian rock writings, enjoy a panoramic view of multicolored sandstone at Rainbow Vista, a favorite photo point, and don`t miss The Cabins. These stone cabins were bulit with native sandstone by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s as a shelter for passing travellers.

And when you will leave the Valley of Fire, and you will take a last view back, then you will know, why the the Valley of Fire named
“Valley of Fire”
